Dementia Living Center

Ground breaking ceremony for the Dementia Living Center
Ribbon Cutting Celebration at Pine Rest Dementia Living Center

The Center for Senior Care’s Dementia Living Center is a short-term, six-to-eighteen-month residential home for individuals with dementia and need-driven behavior. A growing body of evidence demonstrates that as cognitive abilities decline, persons with dementia demonstrate behaviors that occur in pursuit of a goal or as an expression of a need.

The 12-bed residential program is located in the Southwood Home, a free-standing building on Pine Rest’s main campus, and is licensed as an adult foster care home.

The program provides treatment in a residential setting for individuals with dementia and need-driven behaviors, and works closely with their loved ones. Persons will be admitted from their home, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. Staff include highly-trained behavioral experts with specialized training in treating persons with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of cognitive impairment, with staffing ratios of 1:3 during the day and evening hours, and 1:6 during the night.

This program addresses the medical, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs behind the person’s need-driven behaviors. It is designed to provide individualized programmatic, clinical, and environmental interventions for need-driven behaviors through providing person-centered care tailored to the ability and personality of each individual. This program’s goals are to improve not only behavior but affective, physical, and cognitive functioning as well. Interventions are identified, used, and evaluated within an interdisciplinary team. The program is committed to a resident’s successful transition from our program into their longer-term place of residence within the community, whether in their home or a residential facility.
